PROFILE
Current residence: Cape Girardeau, MO, US
I wanted to earn a masters degree because:
It is every padawan’s dream to become a Jedi Master.
While earning my degree, my greatest supporters were:
My cat, Chauncey, always provided me with the kitty snuggles to power through late night meetings and homework. Also, a special thanks to all the Cape Girardeau, MO librarians who agreed to work on projects with me. For me, classes have nothing on that practical experience.
While in the program, I met classmates from:
As expected, most of my classmates resided all over California. However, I was pleasantly surprised to meet some fellow Midwestern folk, as well as some new friends on the east coast. In addition, I had some classmates from Canada and a professor teaching from New Zealand!
What I liked best about online learning was:
I really enjoyed the freedom of online learning. I was able to keep a full time job and work at my own pace (finishing a month early nearly every semester). In addition, I learned and practiced on so many new technology tools that aid asynchronous communication and collaboration that will benefit me in my future LIS profession.
What I enjoyed most about my experience at the SJSU School of Information was:
I enjoyed most of my professors. They each were experienced LIS professionals and were always quick to respond to questions and concerns. In addition, I feel that most of the coursework provided strong foundational skills (such as building a policy manual from scratch) that helped me during my library fieldwork.
I plan to use my degree to:
I would like to end up in a public or school library. I followed a Teacher Librarian pathway in order to fill out specific school credentials, but I would be happy working with any Youth or Young Adult program.
Now that I have completed the program, I'm most looking forward to:
I am most excited about discovering and advocating for the evolving purposes of a library. I’m most interested in creating makerspaces and other STEAM programs that provide hands-on learning in addition to textual literacy. I’m also interested in modifying traditional libraries into safe, inclusive spaces (for example, LGBT programs and Sensory Storytimes).
