The degree of

Master of Library and Information Science

Virtual Convocation
2018

PROFILE

Current residence: Fresno, CA, US

I wanted to earn a masters degree because:

I knew from a young age that I wanted to be a Librarian; while I matured, so did my vision of my Librarianship, and I knew that a Masters was the stepping stone into my endeavor for access and literacy.

While earning my degree, my greatest supporters were:

My Heavenly Father, my Husband Jason, Parents (In-laws, too!), and siblings and Family, friends and peers that encouraged me along the way. Your continued encouragements, known and unknown, have always come at the perfect time and strengthened me to keep taking another bite of the elephant!

While in the program, I met classmates from:

All over California and the United States, some in Canada and met professors who traveled the world!

What I liked best about online learning was:

I loved the ability to review class lectures and discussions, and to do this in my own time. I love the responsibility that online learning depended on me having, such as time management and realistic expectations of professional skills. I developed fantastic communication skills that are crucial in this digital age, and had the opportunity to experience teaching from all across the Globe, experiencing culture and perspective in every term.

What I enjoyed most about my experience at the SJSU School of Information was:

I enjoyed the courses that I got to choose every semester and that I learned a brain-busting amount in each course. I learned that sometimes what seems impossible to do in a semester is possible, especially when you've somehow decided to take an extra course than the semester prior. I especially enjoy the amount of competency I feel in completing this program at the iSchool.

I plan to use my degree to:

I plan to Reach Out. I want to affect change and create hope through my service as a Kind Librarian. I want to be an advocate for the quieted voices, and a beacon of hope to those pushed into darkness.

Now that I have completed the program, I'm most looking forward to:

I am so excited to read for enjoyment and spend time with people without the concern of getting back to my studies! I am ready to dive into my crafting and creating of art and to looks for a professional position in pretty much any branch of librarianship. I'm so ready for the Classroom of Life!
