PROFILE

Current residence: Burney, CA, US

I wanted to earn a masters degree because:

I wanted to earn a masters degree to allow me to enter the library field. I had already pursued and received a teaching credential but found that I didn’t enjoy working as a full-time teacher and was looking for a new career path. During this time, I had started considering a masters degree and thought about working as a librarian. I found SJSU’s iSchool program and decided to earn the degree to help me pursue a dream of becoming a librarian or archivist.

While earning my degree, my greatest supporters were:

My family was my greatest support. My dad, mom, and sister encouraged me to complete my degree. Also, one of my friends would ask how I was doing in my classes and continue to encourage me. In my second semester of the program, I started working at my local library and the head librarian began to support me as well, providing me with information for projects.

While in the program, I met classmates from:

I have met classmates from around the US and world. I enjoyed interacting virtually with many of them and was able to meet a few in person at the CLA 2017 conference in Riverside, CA.

What I liked best about online learning was:

I enjoyed being able to work on assignments as I had time from anywhere. I was able to interact with classmates and professors using means with which I was comfortable and at times that worked around my changing work schedule.

What I enjoyed most about my experience at the SJSU School of Information was:

While completing my degree, I was able to interact with other students. I enjoyed learning from others. I also enjoyed the enthusiasm shown by the professors, which made me more excited to complete my degree and beginning to work full-time as a librarian.

I plan to use my degree to:

I plan to use my degree to pursue a full-time position as a librarian in my local public library. Though in the future I may also pursue a career in archives.

Now that I have completed the program, I'm most looking forward to:

I look forward to having my degree, I also look forward to a full-time position as a librarian. Working full-time in the library instead of as a substitute will be great!
