The degree of

Master of Library and Information Science

Virtual Convocation
2018

PROFILE

Current residence: Carlsbad, CA, US

I wanted to earn a masters degree because:

I wanted to enhance my skills as an educator and information provider. I enjoy research and teaching students. As such, library science was the perfect fit. I enjoy working with students individually and watching them discover new information or ideas . I am strong believer that "knowledge is power."

While earning my degree, my greatest supporters were:

My husband and son.

While in the program, I met classmates from:

Utah, Massachusetts, and many others. In fact, I meant someone that lived near and was an alumni of the same college (Utah State) where I received my undergraduate degree.

What I liked best about online learning was:

I enjoyed working on my own time but with paced deadlines. I work and have a family so this online program worked very well for me. It also helped to hone my technology skills. I enjoyed learning from students and faculty from other parts of the world.

What I enjoyed most about my experience at the SJSU School of Information was:

I learned so much more than I anticipated. I not only received scholarly training but applicable skills. I learned website coding and how to create library research guides and tutorials, I am also grateful for the opportunity to intern at two excellent academic libraries. My experience in the ischool program was outstanding and very beneficial.

I plan to use my degree to:

work in an academic or digital library. I am particularly interested in special collections, digital humanities, and instruction.

Now that I have completed the program, I'm most looking forward to:

Applying the skills I learned and working in a position I truly enjoy.
