I was presented with the challenge of earning my masters by my supervisor in my very first library position. I was immediately frustrated by the lack of opportunities available in the field because I did not have my masters degree
While earning my degree, my greatest supporters were:
My husband and children were by far my most ardent supporters. My father, my uncle and all of my friends also cheered me on throughout my entire journey.
What I liked best about online learning was:
I am a firm believer in the learning opportunities available through online learning. My state does not offer a masters in library science program. As a working mom with a family to consider, I could not just move to another state in order to partake in this program.
What I enjoyed most about my experience at the SJSU School of Information was:
The most impressive thing about the SJSU iSchool was the support provided to the students. It is one thing to establish a list of competencies that need completed, but it is another to ensure that there are opportunities available to meet that end. At the start of the program never did I imagine that I would do a virtual internship with a museum, or conduct research towards a publication, or represent the school at the ALA-ICA annual conference in Mexico City. All of the professors I have emailed outside of class have been nothing but supportive and they have gone above and beyond to help me achieve my professional goals.
I plan to use my degree to:
My present goal is to use my degree in some sort of research/archival role. That may change as I obtain more experience in the field. I look forward to the options that having my degree will provide me with.
