Becoming a Librarian was never my intent. I worked in the library just to put me through undergrad. But, I should have known it was my destiny when I was an 18-year-old Summer Youth worker, and the then Librarian and Library Clerk left me in charge for three hours to attend a retirement party.
In February 2001 my official library journey began. I started out as a Library Aide and within five years moved up to a Library Technician. It was in this position where I fell in love with the Summer Reading Program. In my eyes, this program is one of the best programs any patron can take part in.

Over the years, I have seen families come together and participate, children increase reading comprehension, and build self confidence because of this program. Once I designed and implemented my first Summer Reading Program I was hooked. I knew then it was time for me to go back to school and get my Masters.
While earning my degree, my greatest supporters were:
My Husband pushed me to go back to school after taking off seven years. This degree would not be possible if I did not have this support.
My Mom has always been my number one supporter.
My family, friends, and co-workers thank you for all of your support.
Shaya Balli, gave me words at the very end the program....“You did the work already, now you are just sharing what you did"
While in the program, I met classmates from:
Sarah Tarvid Johnson is the one classmate I wish I could truly meet. Although she lives Fairfax, Virginia. She became my rock towards the end of the program. I can truly my classmate from Grad School.
What I liked best about online learning was:
Meeting classmates from all over the world.
What I enjoyed most about my experience at the SJSU School of Information was:
Meeting people from all over the world.
I plan to use my degree to:
The next chapter in my career is to finally say I am a Children’s Librarian, and once that happens who knows what comes next? One thing is for sure – my career is about to start.
Now that I have completed the program, I'm most looking forward to:
Watching Netflix, heading back to the gym, going to Disneyland, and possibly start a family.
Mary Bolin: Congratulations, Rebecca!
