PROFILE
Current residence: Tacoma, WA, US
I wanted to earn a masters degree because:
I've always had a passion for people and helping them find information, the customer service aspect, a love of books and reference services, organization and community involvement and interaction. I felt that in addition to my current job as a library paraprofessional, earning a masters degree (i.e. MLIS) was the best way to gain the tools I needed to do just that.
While earning my degree, my greatest supporters were:
My greatest proponents were my family, close friends, and co-workers, but especially my fiancé, whose unwavering support and encouragement emboldened me to pursue this aspiration.
While in the program, I met classmates from:
I had the privilege of "meeting" and working with classmates from many different parts of the world, some living in the same city and/or state, and others clear across the map; a truly global community!
What I liked best about online learning was:
My favorite thing about online learning is the flexibility it offers. The convenience of asynchronous learning allowed me to fit my coursework into my existing schedule, without having to sacrifice something else (e.g. work, hobbies, etc.) in return.
What I enjoyed most about my experience at the SJSU School of Information was:
The thing I enjoyed most about my experience was being able to customize the program based on my professional interests.
I plan to use my degree to:
I plan to use my degree to transition from my current position as a library paraprofessional to a full-fledged librarian, either in a public or academic setting.
Now that I have completed the program, I'm most looking forward to:
I'm most looking forward to applying the knowledge I've gained in a real-world setting, and I'm especially eager to explore the new career possibilities that await! And of course, I'm excited about being able to spend more time with friends, family, and the ability to devote more time to planning my wedding!
