PROFILE
Current residence: Stockton, CA, US
I wanted to earn a masters degree because:
After graduating with my bachelors in Psychology, I found that field wasn’t the right fit for me. Dean Harrison of CSU Stanislaus, Stockton helped me develop my professional passions in librarianship, and motivated me to take the steps to apply for this program.
While earning my degree, my greatest supporters were:
Definitely my parents as well as my partner of eight years. My parents have been great advisors on both the trivial and trickiest of situations that I’ve encountered; and have always been there when I needed them. Austin, my partner of almost 8 years, and our three pups have also been major supporters and have been the mediators during my bouts of stress. Others that have supported me are: -My best friend of 16 years, and comrade in the ways of all things college, Veronica. -My Family and Aunts, especially my Aunt Belinda and the Girls (including Stella!), who have been my showcasers of strength and perseverance. -My Cousins, like Victoria (Kiki), who show their support in silly memes and roughhousing. Professionally, I’d like to acknowledge those, outside of my time at SJSU, that got me here with the skills I need to succeed. -Lisa, Registrar of the Dallas Zoo was where I did my first internship as a Zoo Registrar and really got me on track with my professional career. -Veronica, Mike, and all the past and present staff of the UOP library not only trained me, but mentored me on how to be an effective librarian and leader. -Nicole and all the staff at LHS, we all worked hard to create a great program that I’m happy to have been a part of starting. -The SJSU professors I've had the pleasure of taking, as well as the classmates who turned to friends along the way! They’ve all been integral facets to my library development, and I can’t thank them enough for the opportunities they’ve given me.
While in the program, I met classmates from:
Everywhere! Meeting people from all over was one of the great perks of the program.
What I liked best about online learning was:
The flexibility. It gave me the opportunity to use my time how I wanted to, and no commuting!
What I enjoyed most about my experience at the SJSU School of Information was:
The professors. Even with the program being an online learning environment, they went the extra mile to create a connected and interative educational space. It can be hard to create that type of learning environment, especially when you only interact through your computer or laptop, so I really appreciate their effort.
I plan to use my degree to:
I'd love to work for an academic library as a full-time instructional or reference librarian.<br />
During my time in the program, I found out I had a passion for both Academic libraianship as well as Zoo librarianship, so if I find some extra time I'd like to volunteer for my local zoo as well.
Now that I have completed the program, I'm most looking forward to:
Taking the next step and getting a full-time position in the field. I'm ready to develop my professional career!
