PROFILE

Current residence: Springfield, OR, US

I wanted to earn a masters degree because:

I knew that I wanted to be a librarian, and knew getting an MLIS was a requirement for me to move forward in the library world. I had no idea the amazing journey it would take me on and I’m so excited to be where I am today.

While earning my degree, my greatest supporters were:

My immediate family, my husband, and even my workplace!

While in the program, I met classmates from:

All over the United States!

What I liked best about online learning was:

The flexibility of being able to work full-time in my chosen field and therefore applying directly what I was learning to my current job.

What I enjoyed most about my experience at the SJSU School of Information was:

Meeting other people who are just as passionate about librarianship as I am. It was also great to have teachers push me in ways I hadn’t previously considered, I.e. towards youth services in a public library. It was through taking a variety of classes and doing independent study at a public library that solidified my passion for working in public librarianship, specifically with kids and their caretakers!

I plan to use my degree to:

Greatly impact communities. I am now a Youth Librarian in a small community where I engage in collection development, outreach, tons of programming, and more! I hope to continue to find different avenues of learning and to never stop listening and engaging with the community I am serving.

Now that I have completed the program, I'm most looking forward to:

Having more time to find other pathways of enrichment. I have already found my mind less cluttered and stressed, and I enjoyed attending the Oregon Library Association conference in Bend at the end of April. I hope to become fluent in Spanish as well so as to serve our community better.
