It was my childhood dream to become a librarian. As a kid, I admired and looked up to the librarians who helped me with my school projects. I always appreciated librarians pointing me in the right direction.
While earning my degree, my greatest supporters were:
My dad, Jaime Sandoval, who took me to the library as a kid, and my mom, Mariana Sandoval, who was the best listener throughout this academic journey.
While in the program, I met classmates from:
Northern California, Maryland, Washington, New York, Kansas, and so many more places.
What I liked best about online learning was:
The ability to learn at my own pace.
What I enjoyed most about my experience at the SJSU School of Information was:
The program provided challenging opportunities that helped me grow academically and professionally. I was the Copy Editor of the Student Research Journal. I served as a research student on a website usability project with Dr. Anthony Chow and Dr. Virginia Tucker and presented my findings at the CLA 2022 conference.
I plan to use my degree to:
Work with students and faculty to expand and improve information literacy education so they can achieve their academic, professional, and personal goals.
Now that I have completed the program, I'm most looking forward to:
Continue working as the Circulation and Reserves coordinator at an academic library while learning from research librarians and learning to apply information practices. I will prepare myself for the academic librarian position I want. I am grateful to have been a student in the MLIS program because this experience helped me gain a professional purpose.
