The degree of

Master of Library and Information Science

Virtual Convocation

PROFILE

Current residence: Hawthorne, CA, US

I wanted to earn a masters degree because:

I am passionate about the role of public libraries in their communities and would like to one day work as a youth services librarian in one of my local public library branches.

While earning my degree, my greatest supporters were:

My husband Misael who encouraged me to keep going even when it felt like too much.

While in the program, I met classmates from:

all over California. Most interestingly, though, is the number of librarians I have talked to across the country while completing my MLIS who also earned their degree from SJSU.

What I liked best about online learning was:

the flexible schedule that allowed me to continue working full-time and set aside time with my husband and daughter.

What I enjoyed most about my experience at the SJSU School of Information was:

Completing assignments that reflected the work done in the real-world, which gave me first hands-on exposure to library work and reinforced my love for the field.

I plan to use my degree to:

become a youth services librarian.

Now that I have completed the program, I'm most looking forward to:

having more time to read again.
