PROFILE
Current residence: Bridgewater, NJ, US
I wanted to earn a masters degree because:
I wanted to advance my career in the library field. I love working in public libraries and inspiring people to read and discover the joys of lifelong learning. I knew that getting this master's degree would provide me with the professional tools and skills that I need to best meet the information needs of my community while also helping to build my professional network.
While earning my degree, my greatest supporters were:
In my personal life my greatest supporters include my husband, my parents, my brother, my sister-in-law, my baby niece, my Grandma, my extended family, my friends, and my hedgehog and kitty. In my professional life my professors and colleagues were my greatest supporters. Thank you all very much for supporting me on my MLIS journey!
While in the program, I met classmates from:
All over the United States and other countries. How cool!
What I liked best about online learning was:
The flexibility! The online learning environment allowed me to maintain a great school/work/personal life balanced. It also gave me the opportunity to meet and work with so many amazing professors and peers from all around the country and world!
What I enjoyed most about my experience at the SJSU School of Information was:
Everything! The interesting and relevant coursework, the wonderful professional network of amazing people that I gained, the academic achievements, the skills and knowledge I acquired that I can bring to my career, the mixture of learning and fun - it all meant so much to me and I enjoyed every second of it!
I plan to use my degree to:
Be the best librarian that I can be! I plan to continue working in public libraries because I really enjoy helping bring unique and inspiring programs and services as well as information to the local community. I am currently the System Training Coordinator for the Somerset County Library System of New Jersey and I plan to use my newfound skills and knowledge to enhance the learning experiences of the patrons as well as the staff.
Now that I have completed the program, I'm most looking forward to:
Applying everything that I have learned through earning my MLIS degree to my job. On a more personal note, I am excited to get back into creating art, painting, drawing, crafting, and also traveling. To celebrate graduating, my husband, three of our best friends, and I are headed to Japan! I can’t wait to visit libraries around the world!
