I pursued my master’s degree to hone my craft and become the best teacher-librarian possible for my students—they deserve the very best! Earning my MLIS was a natural extension of my lifelong love of learning and a personal goal I had set for many years.
While earning my degree, my greatest supporters were:
Throughout this journey, my biggest supporters were my family. A heartfelt thank you to my husband, Pat, our kids, Will, Claire, and Jimmy, as well as my parents, siblings, and friends who are like family. Their unwavering encouragement over these past three years lifted me up when I was struggling and lightened my load when I was buried in coursework. I am endlessly grateful for their love and support.
While in the program, I met classmates from:
I had the incredible opportunity to meet classmates from all over the world and from all different types of libraries. Their diverse experiences and perspectives enriched my learning, and I gained valuable insights into librarianship through our discussions and collaborations.
What I liked best about online learning was:
its flexibility, which allowed me to balance my professional responsibilities while completing my master’s degree. While I would have preferred an in-person classroom experience, I gained valuable new skills through online learning, enhancing my ability to adapt to different digital tools and collaborative platforms.
What I enjoyed most about my experience at the SJSU School of Information was:
the opportunity to learn from professors who are experts in their fields and to engage with classmates who brought diverse perspectives and valuable insights to our discussions. Each semester, I found my coursework both challenging and rewarding, deepening my understanding of the field. Additionally, I loved the experience of publishing two papers with Dr. Loertscher, which allowed me to contribute to the broader discourse in library and information science.
I plan to use my degree to:
continue my role as a Teacher-Librarian at an elementary school, where I can apply my knowledge to create an engaging, inclusive, and resource-rich library environment for all my students.
Now that I have completed the program, I'm most looking forward to:
reading more books for fun and meeting friends for coffee!
