GUEST BOOK

Mel Vierra: Rachel, I am constantly in awe of the fierce , quiet determination you exemplify - and I have been since the first day we met. The dedication and effort it's taken to get yourself to graduation day has not gone unnoticed! You've literally kicked ASS and knocked down doors to be where you are today, and I am SO proud of you and all your hard work. It takes real courage and bravery to pursue a Masters degree while working FULL TIME (in a particularly challenging, critically important role) here at SJSU. I feel VERY fortunate to have you as a coworker, and I'm overjoyed to call you my friend. I can't wait to see what your future holds!! Congrats on earning your Master's Rachel!!!

Kare McCall: Hi Rachel, Huge congratulations on earning your master’s degree! What an incredible achievement! It’s been so fun to follow your journey and see how you’ve woven your passions for language and history into your academic work. I especially admire how you took the opportunity to dive deep into topics that truly matter to you. And doing all of that while balancing your role at SJSU is seriously impressive. Wishing you all the best as you move into this next chapter. I’m excited to see what you do next! Cheers, Kare

PROFILE

Current residence: San Jose, CA, US

I wanted to earn a masters degree because:

I wanted to learn the theory and practice behind the field I have been interested in for a while. I want to have the tools to make information available regardless of language.

While earning my degree, my greatest supporters were:

My family and SJSU coworkers

What I liked best about online learning was:

Being able to choose when to watch my lectures and complete my coursework.

What I enjoyed most about my experience at the SJSU School of Information was:

Having a chance to research topics that apply to my interests, such as translator information communities, medieval manuscripts, and the history of Monterey Bay.

I plan to use my degree to:

Work on making information and scholarship available to all languages and scholars so that we can share knowledge more efficiently.

Now that I have completed the program, I'm most looking forward to:

Finding a job and future degree in the field and being able to further pursue my passions.
