I am so proud of you and VERY excited! That is wonderful that you were able to pursue your passion and you didn’t miss a beat after getting your undergraduate degree (Go Beats!) and having Freda. Please take a nap lol!! Seriously, I hope you continue leaning into your passion wherever that may lead.

PROFILE
Current residence: Vallejo, CA, US
I wanted to earn a masters degree because:
I’ve always loved the library — it’s a place of joy and comfort to me, and I wanted to work in a field that brings me that same joy.
While earning my degree, my greatest supporters were:
My daughter Freda, my partner David, my mom and dad, my brother Lee, and many friends and family members have supported me throughout my educational journey — I’m so grateful for their love, encouragement, and presence.
While in the program, I met classmates from:
I met classmates from the Bay Area — who I hope to connect with in real life one day — as well as classmates from around the world.
What I liked best about online learning was:
As a stay-at-home mom, I literally wouldn’t have been able to complete this program if it wasn’t virtual. I’m grateful for the flexibility and being able to work independently and at my own pace.
What I enjoyed most about my experience at the SJSU School of Information was:
I enjoyed learning more about library and information science and discovered a true passion for information access and historical preservation.
I plan to use my degree to:
After earning my MLIS degree, I hope to work as a public librarian, developing services, resources, and programs that highlight and celebrate Black culture — whether through public institutions or independent initiatives. Eventually, after gaining experience in the library field, I’d (possibly) like to pursue a Ph.D. in Cultural Studies or African American Studies.
Now that I have completed the program, I'm most looking forward to:
This summer, I look forward to resting, creating art, and spending time with my daughter and family.
