So proud of you!!! Andrew Carnegie once said that "[a] library outranks any other one thing a community can do to benefit its people." And that dude donated like $350 million dollars to charity*

The degree of
Master of Library and Information Science
Virtual Convocation
2017
PROFILE
Current residence: Concord, CA, US
I wanted to earn a masters degree because:
I was ready for a new challenge when I enrolled in the School of Information at San Jose State University in the fall of 2014. Having worked in an academic library since 2002, I had reached a point in my career where it was time to obtain an advanced degree. I was grateful for the opportunity to earn a Master's Degree in Library Science.
While earning my degree, my greatest supporters were:
Emily Lowell, my awesome friend and an outstanding Teen Services Librarian from San Jose Public Library, was my biggest supporter throughout the program. Gratitude must also be extended to my brother Zachary Porter, a current standout student at Golden Gate University Law. Finally, I could not have completed the program without the guidance of my brilliant colleagues at the Saint Mary's College Library. I thank you all.
While in the program, I met classmates from:
I collaborated, brainstormed, and conversed with classmates from around the world.
What I liked best about online learning was:
Having the opportunity to learn about and work with a range of technological tools and applications was a major advantage of online learning. I was able to integrate many of these resources into my current work at Saint Mary's College. Being the parent of a precocious and very active child, I was also grateful for the ability to complete my assignments while playing with dolls and preparing dinner. Best of all, I appreciated working with professors from around the country and with a variety of professional backgrounds. I learned so much from these intelligent and insightful individuals in such a short amount of time.
What I enjoyed most about my experience at the SJSU School of Information was:
I enjoyed nearly every aspect of my experience in the School of Information at San Jose State University. Completing the electronic portfolio will be my most treasured memory, as it symbolizes my success as a graduate student while representing all the hard work completed throughout the program.
I plan to use my degree to:
Now that I'm a librarian, I'm hoping for a reference and instruction position at an academic library in the California bay area.
Now that I have completed the program, I'm most looking forward to:
I'm looking forward to learning more about libraries and continuing to grow as an information professional. I'm hoping to meet new colleagues through consortium and committee work while experiencing a variety of library settings.
