The degree of

Master of Library and Information Science

Virtual Convocation
2017

PROFILE

Current residence: Agoura Hills, CA, US

I wanted to earn a masters degree because:

I have volunteered or worked in a school library since 1995, and decided along the way that I wanted to learn the theory and history of librarianship to support the practical skills I learned on the job. I am also very interested in literacy education and information science in general, and I felt that a degree would help me explore other areas of librarianship, and also help to insure my continued employability.

While earning my degree, my greatest supporters were:

my family, friends, and coworkers.

While in the program, I met classmates from:

all over the world! That was one of the most broadening aspects of this experience, and one that I will miss the most.

What I liked best about online learning was:

the fact that I could set my own timelines for learning in each class, and to a large extent, in the program as a whole. Most of the lectures were asynchronous, so they could fit into my sometimes irregular availability, and I could even take my classes on vacation!

What I enjoyed most about my experience at the SJSU School of Information was:

learning cutting edge skills from faculty who work in the field, and meeting so many wonderful classmates who inspired and energized me.

I plan to use my degree to:

continue to work in the school library field. I tried to take as many classes as possible that directly related to my job in a K-12 independent school library. However, I have also gained additional knowledge that prepared me to extend my reach as well, for example, in the area of information literacy instruction.

Now that I have completed the program, I'm most looking forward to:

continuing my education both through online learning opportunities and by attending conferences and meetings, so that I continue to stay current with developments in the library field.
