I started working in libraries while studying for my undergraduate degree, and the more I worked in the library the more I wanted to stay. After trying my hand at journalism, which was my major in undergraduate school, I knew I wanted to stay in libraries. After graduation I got a job at Cal Poly in the Resource Sharing department of the Kennedy Library and they encouraged me to peruse librarianship. Libraries are the only workplace where I feel like I belong, and I look forward to continuing my career in libraries.
While earning my degree, my greatest supporters were:
My wife was a huge supporter who had to practically live as a single parent during the end of every semester when all my papers were due. Without her help I would not have had the time to complete this degree, let alone complete it in a year and a half. <br />
I was also supported by the Kennedy Library. My employer gave me some time to work on homework every week, and my coworkers were understanding when I was tired or stressed from school.
While in the program, I met classmates from:
I met people from all over the US, but primarily from California.
What I liked best about online learning was:
I liked the flexibility of the program. For the most part, without set classes I was able to fit school around working full time and being a full time dad. I appreciated the ability to plan ahead and find time to write papers around family time.
What I enjoyed most about my experience at the SJSU School of Information was:
I enjoyed learning more about parts of libraries I have yet to work in. I especially enjoyed the class on makerspaces and interactive learning where I had to make a physical project.
I plan to use my degree to:
I plan on seeing what opportunities open up within the CSU system. I like where I am and I want to be qualified for any opportunities for advancement in my current position.
Now that I have completed the program, I'm most looking forward to:
I am looking forward to being more present when I am not at work.
