PROFILE

Current residence: Ogden, UT, US

I wanted to earn a masters degree because:

I have wanted to be a librarian since I was a little girl. I always expected to get a Master's degree and it is required to be a librarian. <br /> When I finished my Bachelor's degree at Weber State University, I knew I wasn't done pursuing my education. I did not feel like it was time for me to forgo text books, writing, and exams. I learned about the Master of Library and Information Science Program at San Jose State University in a park in Salt Lake City when a woman in a cardigan approached me and suggested I look it up. She told me she was a student. I never caught her name but I will never forget her.

While earning my degree, my greatest supporters were:

My husband Alden Park, my children Kennedy Page and Vern Jensen, and my former professors and friends.

While in the program, I met classmates from:

All over the world!

What I liked best about online learning was:

I was able to stay in school while in the middle of a high risk twin pregnancy. I even took one of my exams in labor while I waited for an operating room to open up. There did not need to be a break in my education while I battled health issues or handled babies in the NICU. I simply logged on and wrote when I found time.

What I enjoyed most about my experience at the SJSU School of Information was:

I enjoyed learning about library management, building webpages, organizing information, and preserving documents. I especially enjoyed learning about how to digitize items in special collections.

I plan to use my degree to:

Help my community.

Now that I have completed the program, I'm most looking forward to:

Paying student loans. (Kidding). I have no idea. I did not want it to be over so soon. I enjoyed grad school and I may pursue my PhD. <br /> From here I will go on to work part-time in my school district and I eventually may pursue a job as a librarian at the local university or at a museum.
