PROFILE
Current residence: St. Albert, Canada
I wanted to earn a masters degree because:
I come to love the library and information field as a library technician. Earning my MLIS degree will allow me to continue to grow and develop my career as a professional.
While earning my degree, my greatest supporters were:
My husband, parents, in-laws, sisters and brothers, extended family, my dear friends and colleagues all were immense sources of support while I earned my MLIS.
While in the program, I met classmates from:
From Canadian provinces (Alberta, BC, Ontario) and several American states (Nevada, California, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Colorado, etc.)
What I liked best about online learning was:
Online learning allowed me to pursue my studies while continue to live my life. I continued to work full time and did not have to put life on hold while I earned my degree. Furthermore, online learning allowed professionals from all across the globe to instruct my classes. This was an excellent opportunity to interact with Library and Information Professionals who possess diverse backgrounds and experiences in the field.
What I enjoyed most about my experience at the SJSU School of Information was:
I really had a positive experience learning at SJSU iSchool. I was able to choose from a wide variety of courses, and ultimately create a learning experience that will suit my future goals. I loved my professors, they were insightful, inspiring and such a great source of support. Furthermore, my classmates also brought a lot of wisdom to the online learning environment as many have worked in the library setting and have years of library experience.
I plan to use my degree to:
I discovered my passion for academic and medical librarianship while earning my MLIS. I thoroughly enjoy library instruction and I hope that I can put into practice the theory and techniques learned. However, I have become curious about public librarianship, specifically working with children and programming. Therefore, I feel like the door is wide open.
Now that I have completed the program, I'm most looking forward to:
Firstly, I am looking forward to finding employment as a librarian. I can not wait to practice what I have learned! And importantly, I am looking forward to spending more time with my family and friends. My husband and 2 year old daughter have been so patient with me as I have been consumed with my studies, I am looking forward to the free time on weekends to be more present. Also, we are welcoming baby #2 in September, so I'm looking forward to this wonderful adventure!
