Jake Wegmann: I'm late to the party here, but major congratulations JPB! Your ability to bridge the worlds of scholarship and hard-headed practice is an inspiration. It's not easy and I'm sure it means that you're constantly moving back and forth between different worlds. Shifting your mindset between the intricacies of code enforcement in LA County and library science at SJSU must require a lot of mental and emotional agility--not many people could pull that off, but you just did. Way to go!

I wanted to earn a masters degree because:

The MLIS degree adds additional tools to my toolbox for my work in urban planning and community advocacy. The training in public librarianship better prepares me to educate and advocate for our communities.

While earning my degree, my greatest supporters were:

My wife, ma, and nana were my greatest supporters. Their encouragement kept me motivated and helped me overcome the challenges and exhaustion of grad school.

While in the program, I met classmates from:

I met colleagues from every part of the world, and those connections enriched my education. The MLIS program incorporates an appreciation of providing information services for our global communities.

What I liked best about online learning was:

I enjoyed the flexibility of pursuing rigorous education at the graduate level without having to leave my full-time job.

What I enjoyed most about my experience at the SJSU School of Information was:

SJSU iSchool sets itself apart from the rest. I enjoyed the rigorous training in information services, the flexible curriculum, the active and activist faculty, the affordable program cost, and the unmatched research opportunities for grad students in the MLIS program.

I plan to use my degree to:

I aim to bridge the realms of urban planning and public libraries while improving the lives of community members in South Central Los Angeles.

Now that I have completed the program, I'm most looking forward to:

The first thing I've got planned is to enjoy some downtime and entertainment without lingering thoughts of deadlines creeping in!
