The degree of

Master of Library and Information Science

Virtual Convocation
2017

PROFILE

Current residence: Draper, UT, US

I wanted to earn a masters degree because:

I wanted to model to my children that we can pursue our dreams and achieve our goals no matter our life circumstance, as long as we focus, work hard, and believe in ourselves. I completed this degree as a single mom, living in a foreign country (China), with poor, limited (censored) internet connection.

While earning my degree, my greatest supporters were:

My children Joshua (14), Madison (11), and Sophie (9). For 2.5 years, they cheered me on every step of the way and often took on extra chores so I could finish homework at night. My family and friends also cheered me on with their support.

While in the program, I met classmates from:

Singapore, Korea, Italy, and the United States.

What I liked best about online learning was:

The global community of peers and instructors and the connections we made through our courses.

What I enjoyed most about my experience at the SJSU School of Information was:

Creating professional and personal relationships with people around the world. I also enjoyed the curriculum for my program, which provided a wealth of relevant and current information regarding digital preservation, metadata, and electronic records management.

I plan to use my degree to:

Promote education and literacy among all populations and further the cause of providing open access to information.

Now that I have completed the program, I'm most looking forward to:

Launching my career as a LIS professional.
