PROFILE

Current residence: San Francisco, CA, US

I wanted to earn a masters degree because:

I have always loved learning, and I particularly love to support others in their learning, too. By earning my MLIS, I could become a school librarian and help give students the tools to become lifelong learners.

While earning my degree, my greatest supporters were:

my family, my coworkers, and my professors. They always encouraged me to keep learning about what I am interested in!

While in the program, I met classmates from:

everywhere! Okay, maybe not everywhere, but it was great to meet people from as close as my own hometown and as far away as Australia. I now have librarian friends all over the United States, which is an amazing network to create in these last two years of study!

What I liked best about online learning was:

the flexibility of my schedule. I loved being able to both choose a synchronous course where I could meet and get to know my classmates on Collaborate or an asynchronous course where I could do my coursework for each week on my own pace.

What I enjoyed most about my experience at the SJSU School of Information was:

the community! Everyone I've met through this program has been an interesting, supportive, and inspiring classmate or professor. Having the ability to meet so many people who have so many different experiences was a wonderful opportunity.

I plan to use my degree to:

be a librarian in an elementary school. I am currently a librarian in our school's elementary division, and I work with both our lower school students and our middle school student. This gives me the opportunity to read hilarious picture books about taco-loving dragons to one group in the morning and to then spend the afternoon talking about solid research skills. I love it, and I can't wait to continue working with my elementary school students.

Now that I have completed the program, I'm most looking forward to:

using my skills to help my students become thoughtful, engaged, and enthusiastic lifelong learners.
