The degree of

Master of Library and Information Science

Virtual Convocation
2017

PROFILE

Current residence: Albuquerque, NM, US

I wanted to earn a masters degree because:

Worked in a public library and thought I would like being a librarian. It wasn't until after I started the program that I understood how important librarianship is to a democratic society and intellectual freedom.

While earning my degree, my greatest supporters were:

My partner, Carrie, supported me through three years of being "too busy," bi-annual meltdowns (one per semester) and lots of boring talk about cataloging and weeding collections. I thank her for her love and support. My family was also there for me and my friends, Katherine and Beverly, were always there to let me vent when I needed to. Jennifer Stubbs, a former SJSU graduate, and co-worker, also gave me a lot of sage advice and cheered me on. Thanks Jennifer!

While in the program, I met classmates from:

All over the country and a few from outside of it. One from Guam, a couple from Canada and France, and one living right here in Albuquerque! (We met for coffee. It was great to see someone face-to-face who knew about my classes and professors.

What I liked best about online learning was:

The new technology, meeting live with people from all over the world.

What I enjoyed most about my experience at the SJSU School of Information was:

My professors were great. So helpful and knowledgeable.

I plan to use my degree to:

I will continue to work in a public library but am branching out into Special Collections and local history. I love research and archives.

Now that I have completed the program, I'm most looking forward to:

Being a real Librarian!
