The degree of

Master of Library and Information Science

Virtual Convocation
2017

PROFILE

Current residence: Fairbanks, AK, US

I wanted to earn a masters degree because:

After several years of working at my local public library, I became interested in pursuing my master’s degree to learn more about the information profession in hopes to advance my career opportunities.

While earning my degree, my greatest supporters were:

My husband Dave, and my mom Gladyce.

While in the program, I met classmates from:

Many different locations, generations, and at various stages of their lives and careers providing an opportunity to learn and share with a diverse group of people.

What I liked best about online learning was:

The flexibility of staying home, studying what I wanted when I wanted, and being able to tailor my schedule to fit my interests and needs. Now I can’t imagine going to school any other way!

What I enjoyed most about my experience at the SJSU School of Information was:

Using assignments as opportunities to learn more about services available in my area. Interviewing the bookstore manager in charge of the print on demand machine at the local university, job shadowing the newly created position of digital literacy librarian at my public library, and researching a nearby community’s membership library gave me new perspectives on information services available in my community.

I plan to use my degree to:

Seek employment in a public, middle or high school, academic, or state law library here in my hometown and get back to work as soon as possible with the new perspective I have gained.

Now that I have completed the program, I'm most looking forward to:

Making a contribution to the community I live in. I have found that libraries are great not only for the public to use but for those of us who want to serve the public as well.
