PROFILE
Current residence: San Jose, CA, US
I wanted to earn a masters degree because:
It has always been a dream of mine to go back to school and earn a MLIS.
While earning my degree, my greatest supporters were:
My husband Jan who always believed I could do this even when I did not always believe I could, my children Fionn and Faelan who didn't mind me missing some of their weekends over the last five years. I also had a lot of support from the amazing teachers and fellow students as well as my work colleagues.
While in the program, I met classmates from:
All over the world, and while I never met in person, I became very good friends with them virtually.
What I liked best about online learning was:
I could study and write in the times I could create and was still able to work full time and be a Mum and a wife as well. The flexibility was one of the reasons I picked SJSU as my school of choice to return to after 25 years away from college.
What I enjoyed most about my experience at the SJSU School of Information was:
How much I learned and actually used in my day job. It ignited a love of learning in me. I loved teaching and working as a collaborate assistant and mentor. I really enjoyed every class over the five years. One of my term papers is being published and that has also made me very happy.
I plan to use my degree to:
I began using my classes straight out of the gate as soon as I started. I am a global HR director at a fortune 500 software firm and i have leveraged nearly every class in my day to day role. Long term I would like to sojourn to teaching in an academic setting but it was a fantastic program to learn in.
Now that I have completed the program, I'm most looking forward to:
Reading and catching up on weekends without papers to finish. We went to Universal Studios over Thanksgiving to see Harry Potter world there to celebrate finishing my masters. I read four fantasy novels while I was away and I do love that I can now do that and not worry about a paper to write.
Andrea: Congratulations! I'm so proud that all the years of work can finally be officially celebrated.
