PROFILE

Current residence: Kansas City, KS, US

I wanted to earn a masters degree because:

It's the next logical step in my career progression. After amassing more than 15 years experience off and on in libraries I was ready to further my career prospects in a field I love; the only way to do that was to get the MLIS.

While earning my degree, my greatest supporters were:

My husband, Tavis, and my parents, Marianne and Gary. And I'm sure my cats were grateful too, if only because they had a nice warm laptop to sit on, rendering me incapable of doing any work :)

While in the program, I met classmates from:

All over the United States and once in awhile, someone internationally.

What I liked best about online learning was:

The convenience and ability to manage my own time with my ever-changing schedule. I also love the technology platform and enjoy self-directed learning anyway, so it was a beautiful fit.

What I enjoyed most about my experience at the SJSU School of Information was:

The variety of classes and ability to align electives with my personal and professional interests. The electives were plentiful, the instructors wise and accommodating, and peers friendly and eager to learn from each other.

I plan to use my degree to:

Eliminate world hunger. Ha. Just kidding. Really, my passion lies in special libraries and research, though I have a special place in my heart for public libraries and the work they do for and with the community they serve.

Now that I have completed the program, I'm most looking forward to:

FREE TIME! Of course I'll probably use some of that free time to continue learning and honing my skillsets. Learning never stops outside the classroom. However, I'll be happy to pursue professional development at my leisure and not to have to write papers or complete assignments anymore!
