Congratulations, Amy! I’m so glad the SLASC brought us together. Too bad we did not meet sooner when I lived in Northern California! You have done so much for the SLASC- it has been inspiring to watch and I think the group has really accomplished so much under your leadership. Best of luck in your job search! I’ll keep an eye out for you. I’m looking forward to seeing you in person on Thursday!!

PROFILE
Current residence: Rohnert Park, CA, US
I wanted to earn a masters degree because:
The library profession had been calling to me for several years, but the time was never right. I'm thrilled to have been able, finally, to complete the process. I look forward to my new career as a librarian!
While earning my degree, my greatest supporters were:
My family, particularly my husband, who had to carry a disproportionate load of household and family matters for the last three years, plus reviewing a lot of my work; my two wonderful daughters, my mother, and both of my extraordinarily-gifted sisters who strengthened my writing abilities and for the hours they spent reviewing my documents. I also need to thank my current manager and co-workers who have been very supportive, despite knowing I will change careers soon.
While in the program, I met classmates from:
All over the world: Saudi Arabia, China, Ireland, Canada, certainly all over the US, and many more. Through one of my classes, I met a librarian in Africa and now have a new friend there.
What I liked best about online learning was:
I didn't have to commute! In addition, the time I spent did not have to be confined to normal business hours and I could work in my pajamas.
What I enjoyed most about my experience at the SJSU School of Information was:
Learning again in a formal setting after 30 years away from school really has been fulfilling and the leadership skills I gained through joining the SLA Student Chapter have been invaluable. I've enjoyed meeting faculty, attending an SLA conference, and arranging time to spend with students in my area of the world.
I plan to use my degree to:
Be a reference librarian--assisting people whenever they seek information and making their lives easier, too.
Now that I have completed the program, I'm most looking forward to:
Sleeping in on weekends (instead of doing homework)! I love meeting new people and am excited about becoming a part of this wonderful profession somewhere in the world.
