PROFILE
Current residence: Glendale, CA, US
I wanted to earn a masters degree because:
I wanted to be in a field that could influence positive change, while capitalizing on my previous education and professional strengths. This degree will give me the flexibility and breadth of knowledge to have a successful career in a variety of fields and future endeavors.
While earning my degree, my greatest supporters were:
My husband, Devin, who was my biggest critic and greatest champion. He never let me fail and he never failed me.
My immediate family and in-laws, who all consistently told me how proud they were.
My friends, who have tolerated my absence from social life, yet worked to keep our relationships alive.
My colleagues and coworkers at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, who taught me more than any class could do.
My professors, faculty advisors, and the entire SJSU iSchool staff, there are too many of you to thank but my gratitude is eternal.
While in the program, I met classmates from:
All across the country, but also some from Europe, Asia, and South America.
What I liked best about online learning was:
The freedom and flexibility to take the time I needed, especially when life had unplanned changes. This is especially true for when my summer internship (first semester) turned into a full-time position (second semseter). I had the ability to take the opportunity that was before me and now have an exciting career I am passionate about.
What I enjoyed most about my experience at the SJSU School of Information was:
The variety and diversity of subjects and skills that I learned. They have allowed me to go forth into the world a better student, professional, and person.
I plan to use my degree to:
Continuing my work as a Records Management Specialist for the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) on behalf of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and the California Institute of Technology (Caltech). In addition, I will continue on in my role as the 2019-2020 Director-at-Large/Membership Director for the Executive Board of the SLA – Southern California Chapter. I plan to pursue certifications from the Academy of Certified Archivists, the Society of American Archivists, the National Archives and Records Administration, and for AS91000 Auditing. In addition, I hope to use my degree to teach information science and as a continued path to a future Ph.D. program in an undecided field.
Now that I have completed the program, I'm most looking forward to:
Spending time with my husband, dogs, friends, and family in ways that I have not been previously able to. I am excited to have the time and bandwidth free to read, write, publish, volunteer, travel, enjoy hobbies, and all-around work on my own self-improvement.
