The degree of

Master of Library and Information Science

Virtual Convocation
2019

PROFILE

Current residence: Groton, CT, US

I wanted to earn a masters degree because:

I wanted to work in a public library setting helping people locate the information that they sought as well as be an active participate in a community. I have always been drawn to the information environment and have a strongly held belief that equal access to information is important in a democracy.

While earning my degree, my greatest supporters were:

other SJSU students (shout out to Jess & Emily!), my sisters and mom, my boyfriend, my co-workers (both past and present).

While in the program, I met classmates from:

Near and far. My classmates were from as close as my public library and as far as other continents.

What I liked best about online learning was:

the flexibility! - I was able to work a full-time job in the evenings and complete course work at the early hours of 3:00am. I was able to finish my M.L.I.S at the pace I chose and during the hours that worked for me.

What I enjoyed most about my experience at the SJSU School of Information was:

exploring not only my own community, but those around me. During course work I spent time in other communities and in their libraries looking into their collections, services, and resources. I decided to choose a new community each time the opportunity presented itself in order to test my research skills. I thoroughly enjoyed that all of the courses had an element of collaboration amongst peers and engagement/exploration within a community.

I plan to use my degree to:

Work in a public library setting providing services and resources to community members. I aspire to work as an adult services librarian and provide outreach services to those who need them.

Now that I have completed the program, I'm most looking forward to:

Relaxing! Traveling. Exploring the opportunities that have become available to me now that I have completed my M.L.I.S!
