I wanted to have an impact in the lives of others, to share information, and empower others to see their own strengths in themselves. The moment when someone realizes how much they have learned and that they truly are capable thinkers, writers, makers, scholars is the most magical thing in the world.
While earning my degree, my greatest supporters were:
My fiance Dave, my friends Hannah Novillo Erikson and Kim Carfore, and my awesome family! Thank you to Randy Carr, Melissa Davis, Rowenna Carr, Courteney Carr, and Brittany Carr!
What I liked best about online learning was:
I could budget my own time, continue to work full time, and build a degree based on what I wanted to learn and believed would be important down the line.
What I enjoyed most about my experience at the SJSU School of Information was:
The challenge! Between working full-time, internships at libraries and archives in my area, and my school work, the challenge of research, high-level critical thinking, and building connections to the field kept me going.
I plan to use my degree to:
work in an academic library as a Reference & Instruction Librarian, providing resources, references, and support for all students. I plan to use technological tools combined with a deep understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusive excellence to provide the highest level of service to a campus community, regardless of background, income, racial and ethnic identity, gender expression, geographical location, etc.
Now that I have completed the program, I'm most looking forward to:
Finding my first full-time librarian position where I can actively make a difference in students lives, and contribute my passion and expertise to the greater field of librarianship. I'm also looking forward to having time (again) to sew my own clothes, read more fiction, and bake more cakes!
