The degree of

Master of Library and Information Science

Virtual Convocation
2019

PROFILE

Current residence: Cincinnati, OH, US

I wanted to earn a masters degree because:

After working a part-time job in a public library for a few years, I wanted to be able to advance in my career there to be able to more fully participate in meeting the information needs of our customers. I had also developed an interest in combining my biology degrees with an MLIS to have the option of working in a medical or veterinary library.

While earning my degree, my greatest supporters were:

My parents, my sister, and many friends and co-workers who are very greatly appreciated.

While in the program, I met classmates from:

I met many folks from California, of course, but also from a variety of states and even other countries.

What I liked best about online learning was:

Being able to complete coursework around my two jobs.

What I enjoyed most about my experience at the SJSU School of Information was:

I loved the variety of courses offered. I was able to explore a diversity of interests within the field of information science and I even got to enhance my Spanish language skills. I absolutely adored my History of Youth Literature, Reference and Information Services, and Online Searching courses. Peer mentoring was also a highlight of my time here and the perfect way to bring the learning experience full circle.

I plan to use my degree to:

Either work as a librarian in a small rural public library or a medical library. I know that I must decide at some point. :)

Now that I have completed the program, I'm most looking forward to:

Sleep? Rediscovering a social life? Being outside? Ha! :)
