I had originally planned on attending a masters program for psychology after attending undergraduate studies, but had lost interest in the profession. I ended up finding working in some local libraries and found that I greatly enjoyed the work. After a few years of working part time, I decided that if I wanted to move up in the profession I would need to go back to school and get my masters degree.
While earning my degree, my greatest supporters were:
My greatest supporters throughout my program were my parents and my co-workers. I have been lucky to have parents who encourage and support my decisions to pursue my dreams and push me to achieve them. When I am struggling they offer me encouragement to persevere. I have also been supported my co-workers in the library field who wish me to succeed. These are people who I can bounce ideas off of when I'm working on assignments or who cheered me on when I finished another semester and was one step closer to my degree.
While in the program, I met classmates from:
It was really interesting to work with individuals who were not only from all different parts of the country, but also the world. During my time in the program I had interactions with students who were frequently on the opposite side of the U.S., but there were also times when the students I was interacting with were in other countries like Canada or Saudi Arabia.
What I liked best about online learning was:
The flexibility to work on assignments based on my own schedule. Due to my classes being asynchronous, I was able to watch lectures or complete papers based on my own timeline from week to week within each classes acceptable calendar of due dates.
What I enjoyed most about my experience at the SJSU School of Information was:
Hearing about the different experiences of my classmates who have worked in various institutions and have had life experiences that are different than my own.
I plan to use my degree to:
Find a position as either a reference or technical services librarian. Those are the two areas of library work that I have found the most enjoyment.
Now that I have completed the program, I'm most looking forward to:
Relaxing and reading just for pleasure again. Also, no more school work!
