PROFILE

Current residence: Centreville, VA, US

I wanted to earn a masters degree because:

I want to advance my professional career. I have worked in academic libraries as both a student worker and staff member for 6 years and decided to pursue my masters in order to explore the various avenues of librarianship.

While earning my degree, my greatest supporters were:

My family, my partner, and my friends. They stuck by me through three years of cancelled plans, late study nights, and a lot of griping/panicking about assignments and group projects.

While in the program, I met classmates from:

All over the world! Many students were from California, but I also met people also from Virginia, from my hometown of Montana, and a few international students.

What I liked best about online learning was:

The convenience and trust. I've worked full time while pursuing my master's degree and the online program allowed me the flexibility that a traditional program just cannot. I was trusted to complete assignments and projects on my own schedule and hold myself accountable and I thrive under such conditions.

What I enjoyed most about my experience at the SJSU School of Information was:

All of it, I think. My professors were wonderful, my classmates provided unique perspectives and viewpoints, and I was able to complete everything on my own time, even within set deadlines. I also didn't have to take the GRE!

I plan to use my degree to:

For now, continue working in academic libraries. My current position does not require a degree, but I would like to further explore greater levels within Access Services, but I may also pursue Reference, archival work, or even cataloging and metadata.

Now that I have completed the program, I'm most looking forward to:

Reading for fun! I haven't been able to do a lot of reading just for the fun of it, which I've desperately missed. I just started a new series, The Raven Cycle by Maggie Stiefvater, and haven't been able to put it down. I also just picked up a bunch of new comics and graphic novels that I can't wait to get into.
