PROFILE

Current residence: Larkspur, CA, US

I wanted to earn a masters degree because:

I pursued the MLIS after being a teacher for almost twenty years because it was required for my job as the Larkspur-Corte Madera School District district librarian. What was at first a requirement quickly became a passion as I learned from so many talented professors and students in the program.

While earning my degree, my greatest supporters were:

My greatest supporter and the person who convinced me to pursue this passion is my mentor, Carol Halpern, who continues to inspire and advise me still. Carol was the district librarian for over thirty years and continues to work with both public and school libraries in our county. <br /> My family, Steve, Kirby, and Marianna understood and accepted my never having any time to do anything but read, complete papers or projects, or complain about having to read, complete papers or projects!

While in the program, I met classmates from:

I met classmates from all over the United States and a few other countries, but I usually worked with students in California. I want to give a special shoutout to two of my classmates, Jason Kinsella and Renee Campbell. Working with them was a pleasure and a highlight of the program.

What I liked best about online learning was:

Online learning was not how I envisioned it, a solo endeavor. Instead, we engaged and collaborated in realtime sessions. It was much more personable than I thought it would be. I especially loved the weekly sessions with Mary Ann Harlan.

What I enjoyed most about my experience at the SJSU School of Information was:

I enjoyed getting to know other librarians and their goals and passions.

I plan to use my degree to:

My degree will allow me to continue serving the students and community of the Larkspur-Corte Madera School District. I love my students and my co-workers who share my passion for reading and learning.

Now that I have completed the program, I'm most looking forward to:

I am looking forward to getting back to my hobbies! Especially practicing music and yoga again! Working fulltime and going to grad school left no time for anything else!
