I wanted to earn a masters degree because:
I am a classroom teacher and have had the desire to enter the world of librarianship for many years. Since I already have an M.Ed., I first set out to achieve a Teacher Librarian Services Credential then found this wonderful program with the SJSU iSchool that made achieving an MLIS degree very manageable as it only took four more courses (including INFO 289 - ePortfolio!) in addition to the required teacher-librarian coursework.
While earning my degree, my greatest supporters were:
my husband, Paul Gioffi, and my teaching colleagues at The Anglo-American School of Moscow, Russia.
While in the program, I met classmates from:
all over the United States; many from California and the Pacific Northwest. I had a couple of courses in which I had classmates living in Qatar, Italy, Germany, and Spain. A special shout-out to Deanna White who was a classmate of mine at the beginning of my MLIS journey and then at the very end for e-Portfolio. Thanks for the support, Deanna!
What I liked best about online learning was:
the ability to earn my MLIS and Teacher Librarian Services Credential while living abroad and teaching full time.
What I enjoyed most about my experience at the SJSU School of Information was:
EVERYTHING! The professors were so knowledgeable and supportive. Each course was relevant to my future career as a librarian. I feel like I got such a well-rounded education. I set out with the intent of being a teacher-librarian but became enlightened to so many other fulfilling types of librarianship. I am thankful for the myriad of applicable skills I learned through the MLIS and Teacher Librarian program.
I plan to use my degree to:
begin a career as a teacher-librarian or another area in the LIS profession.
Now that I have completed the program, I'm most looking forward to:
not having to say, "I can't, I have homework," when I am invited to do something. Also, I am looking forward to having time to simply read for pleasure as well as being more "present" for my husband and dog again.
