I wanted to be a librarian for most of my life, and having a MLIS is a necessary credential! I already had a BS in biology, and an AS in Library science. I wanted to upgrade to being fully credentialed to work in the library and information science fields.
While earning my degree, my greatest supporters were:
My partner, and my close friends and chosen family, as well as librarian friends. All of them cheered me on every step of the way and helped me celebrate this lifelong goal I've accomplished.
While in the program, I met classmates from:
all over the place, it was truly a global community represented.
What I liked best about online learning was:
The accessibility! As a Deaf/disabled student, who doesn't live in an area with a LIS program, the online format of this learning was a necessity. I am grateful to have had the experience because it has prepared me to self motivate, educate, and work remotely.
What I enjoyed most about my experience at the SJSU School of Information was:
that the work was challenging, but made sense to do. There was no busy work, and every course I took I feel maximized the time they had. This level of academic rigor was something I was craving, and my educational experience at the SJSU School of Information was enriching and deeply rewarding.
I plan to use my degree to:
run The Library of Intersectionality, (a library I created over the course of my time pursuing my MLIS) and help people make connections with data analysis and information access.
Now that I have completed the program, I'm most looking forward to:
Jumping in with two feet! I have research projects lined up to help support people experiencing intersectional marginalization, I have my own business as an independent information professional, I'm working on further improving my skills with data analysis and management of data assets. I'm working on making connections with my peers and the greater library community, and finding my niche!
