The degree of

Master of Library and Information Science

Virtual Convocation
2024

PROFILE

Current residence: Sacramento, CA, US

I wanted to earn a masters degree because:

Earning a masters degree in Library and Information Science was my ticket to a new career. I was in search of a profession that would give me a sense of purpose and meaning and found that (and so much more!) in the MLIS degree at SJSU.

While earning my degree, my greatest supporters were:

My mom, a fellow librarian who could lend invaluable advice and real-world perspective, was my greatest champion; my dad, who truly embraced my chosen path and proudly learned all about metadata, digital curation, and audio-visual archiving by watching my presentations; my brother, who provided endless laughter and levity to keep me going; my cat, Elphie, for forcing me to take snuggle breaks; my MLIS peers, especially the members of the ALA Student Chapter for commiserating with me during challenging semesters; and my friends for getting me out of the house (and my own head!) when the going got rough.

While in the program, I met classmates from:

All over the world! I have so many friends (and by association, libraries/archives!) to visit now!

What I liked best about online learning was:

The flexibility it afforded me as I continued working part-time, pursued internships and fellowships, and served on the executive board of both the SJSU ALA and SLA Student Chapters.

What I enjoyed most about my experience at the SJSU School of Information was:

Developing such an extensive network of peers, many of whom ultimately became close friends. The SJSU iSchool also provided me countless opportunities, including, but not limited to: internships, fellowships, student assistantships, student association leadership, conference attendances, poster presentations, and so much more!

I plan to use my degree to:

Pursue a career in audio-visual preservation, in either an archive, academic library, special collection, or museum.

Now that I have completed the program, I'm most looking forward to:

Chipping away at my extensive pile of books to read and movies to watch! I'm also excited to have my weekends back and deleting the Canvas app from my phone!
