Mia Gittlen

2024 Ken Haycock Award Recipient

Mia Gittlen is the K-8 Librarian at Redwood Day School, an independent school in Oakland, California, and will transition into the role of Librarian at Milpitas High School, the comprehensive public high school in Milpitas, California this fall. She has 20 years of experience in education which includes teaching in middle and high schools and working as an instructional technology teacher on special assignment. She is an American Library Association Emerging Leader, Apple Learning Coach, Common Sense Ambassador, Google Certified Educator, Microsoft Innovative Educator, Minecraft Certified Educator, and a PBS Certified Media Literacy Educator. She was a recipient of the 2023 American Association of School Librarians Roald Dahl's Miss Honey Social Justice Award along with her colleagues Julia Bourland, Lauren Konopka, and Matthew Williams for their Global Human Rights Research Project. She is the founder of Active Educators, a monthly educator fitness meetup in the East Bay (which can be found on Facebook, Instagram, and Meetup).
