PROFILE

Current residence: Omaha, NE, US

I wanted to earn a masters degree because:

I am a life-long learner and I have a deep passion for libraries.

While earning my degree, my greatest supporters were:

My husband , Kevin, was by far my greatest supporter. His eternal optimism kept me going when things got tough - he never let me quit. My parents, Wendall and Deanna, and my sisters, Cora and Tamlyn, along with their families also were supportive - understanding when I had to disappear to do homework.

While in the program, I met classmates from:

all over the world. I was lucky to make a couple of deeper connections that have turned into friendships.

What I liked best about online learning was:

I could do this at my own pace and work around my job. For most of the program I was a Branch Manager of a military library, so begin able to serve my patrons and then do school on my own time was a real benefit.

What I enjoyed most about my experience at the SJSU School of Information was:

I had a couple of classes that were really impactful on my life. My social crisis management class, hyperlinked libraries, and intercultural communication classes not only have made me a better information professional, but a better human being. Dr. Stephens and Jennifer Jumba are people, whether they realizes it or not, made huge impacts on how I see our profession and the world. I am really grateful for their classes.

I plan to use my degree to:

Be a librarian. I hope to get a position as an instructional librarian at one of the local colleges or universities.

Now that I have completed the program, I'm most looking forward to:

FREE TIME! Although I have enjoyed most aspects of school I have missed being able to work on my hobbies, read what I want, and spend time with my friends and family.
